D'Arcy Opens North America's Largest Hyundai Dealership: Photos
Joliet's mayor said he plans to have a grand opening gala welcoming several of Hyundai's top executives to visit Joliet in October.

JOLIET, IL — Long before he announced plans to run against Bob O'Dekirk in the mayor's race, one of Will County's most notable auto dealers, Terry D'Arcy, undertook a $17 million construction project at 2000 Essington Road. In recent days, the largest Hyundai dealership campus in North America is now open for business.
As a result, Joliet's new mayor closed down his Hyundai dealership on Joliet's West Jefferson Street and moved all his inventory to his new Hyundai showroom on Essington Road.
It's adjacent to his Buick-GMC dealership.

The D'Arcy Hyundai dealership is part of a 25-acre campus, and the Hyundai dealership consists of 67,000 square feet. More than 200 employees now work at D'Arcy's dealerships on Essington Road, he said. The auto sales campus consists of 1,600 designated parking spaces.

Employees at D'Arcy Hyundai told Joliet Patch on Wednesday that they expect to have an inventory of 250 to 300 new and pre-owned Hyundai vehicles on the new lot in the next 60 days.

On Wednesday, Joliet's part-time mayor told Patch the city building inspectors gave him the occupancy permits on Sept. 5. In October, he plans to have a grand opening celebration to mark the special occasion. He said that many of Hyundai's top corporate executives will travel to Joliet for the event.
"It's going to be their showcase, state-of-the-art location," D'Arcy said.
D'Arcy also joked how he planned to be sure to invite Joliet's mayor to mark the event.
As for his old Hyundai dealership on West Jefferson Street, D'Arcy said he plans to keep the property for now. He said it will still be used for auto detailing work.
"I've had interest, there's been talk of professional medical office buildings, but I'm not in a hurry to make a change," Joliet's mayor explained. "I don't need to move it until the right idea comes along."
