Demetrius Greene, Reckless Homicide Convict Who Killed Joliet Teacher In Wreck, Lands In Will County Jail
Joliet police continue to arrest Demetrius Greene on a regular basis since he's come home from prison for his 2018 reckless homicide crime.

JOLIET, IL — For the first time since his Funko Pop arrest in early January, Joliet reckless homicide convict and former prison inmate Demetrius Greene is back in the Will County Jail, following an overnight arrest by Joliet's on-duty patrol officers.
Joliet Patch has produced numerous crime stories on Greene over the past decade. He has continued to get arrested back in Joliet ever since he finished serving his prison sentence for ending the life of 56-year-old Martyn Flowers, a long-time substitute teacher for Joliet Public School District 86 during a reckless driving incident back in 2018.
According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English, at 12:19 a.m. on October 1, the patrol officers conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Malibu near West Jefferson Street and Reedwood Drive for a lane violation.

During the stop, officers saw a rear passenger who was not wearing a seat belt, English said. The passenger initially provided a false name before identifying himself as Demetrius Greene, 42, of Joliet. Officers determined Greene had two outstanding DuPage County arrest warrants for failing to appear in court and took him into custody, English revealed.
During a search of Greene, officers recovered suspected cocaine and a glass smoking device commonly used to ingest narcotics, English pointed out. Greene was transported to the Joliet Police Department for booking, where officers recovered additional suspected cocaine concealed in his sock. Greene was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and obstructing identification. Greene was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility for the two outstanding warrants out of DuPage.

Joliet Patch just wrote about Greene's last arrest in a story published on Sept. 18 headlined, "Reckless Driver Who Killed Joliet Teacher In 2018 Crash Gets Arrested For Aggravated DUI: Police." According to English, at 9:47 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 14, the officers responded to the area of West Jefferson Street and South Larkin Avenue for a report of a reckless driver.
Responding officers were advised that the suspect vehicle was a Dodge Grand Caravan. Upon arrival, an officer located the Dodge traveling westbound on West Jefferson Street and
saw the vehicle being driven erratically. An officer conducted a traffic stop near West Jefferson Street and Essington Road and identified Greene as the driver. Greene was charged with Aggravated DUI and DUI. He was also cited for improper turn, improper lane usage, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, driving while license revoked, and two counts of failure to signal.
Back in 2019, Greene, then 34, was given an eight-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to reckless homicide and failure to report an accident involving injury or death.
Around dinner time, on Jan. 10, 2018, Greene blew a red light at the busy intersection of Black Road and Larkin Avenue as he was driving the wrong way against traffic. Greene caused a six-vehicle pileup and the death of one of the motorists he struck was Flowers.
This past January, Joliet Patch reported that Greene started off 2026 with a felony arrest by the Joliet Police Department involving the theft of several Funko Pop figures worth an estimated $5,000, the agency revealed in its press release.
According to English, at 4:18 p.m. Jan. 3, officers responded to an apartment in the 300 block of Marble Street for a theft. Greene and Stacey Jones, 46, who also goes by the alias of Stacey Ward, entered the apartment under the pretense of retrieving a personal item, English said.
"Once inside, it is alleged that Greene and Jones began placing collectible Funko Pop figurines into garbage bags, despite being told by the male tenant to stop and leave," English said.
Officers learned the items did not belong to either Greene or Jones.
