Development On Jackson Street? Joliet Asked To Rezone Parcel
The city of Joliet has been asked to rezone the vacant parcel of residential property so a Channahon man can attract three businesses here.

JOLIET, IL — The city of Joliet's zoning board will meet later this week to review plans submitted by Arnoldo and Maria Chavez of Channahon to rezone 251 East Jackson St. from residential property to commercial.
Arnoldo Chavez wants to put a new building on his family's vacant lot near the corner of Franklin Street. He hopes to attract several businesses to locate there, once his construction is finished. The proposal calls for a commercial building with three different units.
"The present zoning is for residential," Chavez wrote city of Joliet officials. "We do not wish to have an empty land. We wish to build something that can benefit the community and the area. We feel the business can be a good thing for the area."

Chavez notified the city that he and his wife thought their property allowed for commercial use when they acquired it.
"Jackson Street is a busy street with a church across the street and businesses across the other street," Chavez wrote. "These new businesses would be a positive impact. The only negative is that there wouldn't be a house on the property."
