Dog Dies in Joliet House Fire

Will County Officers noticed the house was on fire while on another call and notified the resident inside.

A Joliet family lost its dog in a house fire that broke out on the 2400 block of Emlong Street at around 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, according to Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton.

Two Will County Officers were on another call on a side street behind the house and noticed the house on Emlong was on fire, according to Stratton.

“They went over there and called it in,” Stratton said. ”One officer went to the front door and another went to the side door and got the occupant out.”

The man at home is in his early 20s. Another dog at the home was able to make it out safely.

The man’s parents were not at home at the time, Stratton said. The dad had run out for a few errands and returned after the fire departments had arrived.

According to Stratton, a detached garage was an explosion concern, but firefighters were able to get it under control. They were on the scene for about an hour.

No cause for the fire has been determined, but a back bedroom contained an air conditioning unit and may have been the cause.

“It’s looking like that’s where the fire started,” Stratton said.

The home is a total loss. The Plainfield and Lockport Fire Departments helped in battling the blaze.
