Downtown Bridge Gate Malfunctions

The gate problem happened Sunday night.

JOLIET, IL - On Sunday night, the downtown Joliet drawbridges were working fine, however, one of the huge mechanical gates on the Jefferson Street began to malfunction, causing problems for motorists. The large gate remained in the down position, even though the bridge was not up and there were no nearing barges.

The gate issue forced motorists heading over to the east side of Joliet to have to stop in front of the gate and maneuver into the other eastbound lane.

The problem happened around 9:20 p.m. and had not been fixed as of 9:50 p.m.
