Drive-By Shooting In Joliet's Cathedral Area

The gunman got away before Joliet police cars arrived on the scene Thursday evening.

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department said a 20-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds to his feet during a drive-by shooting on the city's west side Thursday evening. Police said someone drove the victim to the AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center before officers arrived at the shooting scene.

The shooting happened at 7:09 p.m. in the area of Mack and Reed Streets. According to Joliet police, someone drove up in a dark colored vehicle to a house in the 500 block of Mack Street, got out of the vehicle and opened fire toward the house.

No arrests have been made as of Friday morning, but police said the shooting investigation is ongoing.

Former Joliet Housing Authority commissioner Bob Hernandez was in the area where the shooting occurred, and he produced a Facebook Live video for his followers.

"Drive by shooting on Reed Street right off Black Road. 8 to 10 shots were fired according to witnesses," Hernandez posted on Facebook. "A witness said one person was shot and was taken to the hospital by someone."
