JOLIET, IL — One of the most awesome jobs on the planet — Zamboni Driver — is now available in Joliet. No, this is not a cruel joke. It's for real. The Joliet Park District just posted the job opening at the Inwood Ice Arena on its Facebook page Thursday.
Not only do Zamboni drivers get paid, they tend to get rock star, Hollywood movie star celebrity treatment.
Do you have what it takes for the Joliet Park District to hire you? That remains to be seen. Unfortunately, unlike Hollywood's top movie stars, you won't be making multi-million dollars working at Inwood, at least not in the beginning.

According to the Joliet Park District job opening, this is what you need to know:
- Part-time Zamboni Driver/Ice Arena Facility Attendant to supervise the ice arena and lobby.
- Responsible for resurfacing/cutting ice, janitorial duties, and overseeing all mechanical and power supply areas associated with keeping the ice-skating rink operating in a proper, safe, and efficient manner.
- 20-25 hours/week, at least $15 per hour, possibly more based on experience, plus.
- Fringe benefits: Ice Arena staff can use Inwood Athletic Club free of charge and are eligible for discounted programs within the fitness center and Ice Arena.

- Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
- Must be at least 18 years of age. Have a valid US driver’s license.
- At least 1 year experience with Ice Arena maintenance and Zamboni Ice Resurfaces preferred.
- Working knowledge of ice arena operations preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of facility management and maintenance repair/upkeep of ice making equipment preferred.
Unrelated, according to Reddit: "Being a zamboni driver is the best job I have ever had, and has the added benefit of being able to skate whenever I want. Will never get tired of this."
That Reddit poster's comment drew more than 4,200 up votes and over 275 comments. The Reddit post has absolutely no connection to the Joliet Park District's job opening, but it's a powerful reminder of how cool driving the Zamboni can be.
