Driving While High In Joliet, Police Make Arrest: English

JOLIET, IL — A 32-year-old man who comes from Kankakee, Nicholas Buttron, remains in the Will County Jail unable to post his $3,000 bail following Thursday evening's arrest by Joliet police on charges of driving under the influence of drugs.

Buttron's arrest happened around 8:30 p.m. while it was dark outside in Joiet. Buttron, on the other hand, was driving without using his headlights and tail lights, according to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English.

According to English:

• Joliet police conducted a traffic stop on a Hyundai Sonata in the 2000 block of South Chicago Street for no headlights or taillights.
• While speaking to Buttron, officers detected an odor of cannabis coming from inside the Kankakee man's car, and Buttron appeared to have remnants of suspected cannabis on his lap.
• Buttron also exhibited behaviors of impairment.
• Buttron performed field sobriety tests and taken into custody without incident.
• Officers recovered suspected cannabis from inside the Hyundai Sonata.
• Buttron was also cited for improper lighting and unlawful possession of cannabis by driver. His car was towed from the scene.
