Drugs Kill 3 More Joliet Residents: Coroner

Last week, Will County's Coroner reported at least 10 known probable drug overdose deaths that her office was called to investigate.

JOLIET, IL —After announcing there were 10 drug overdose deaths last week across Will County, Coroner Laurie Summers informed her Facebook followers that her office investigated three more drug overdoses between Friday and Sunday. All three drug users died in Joliet.

"The Will County Coroner is committed in keeping the public aware of these deaths, in (an) effort to curb the use of substances that contain fentanyl," Summers announced on Facebook.

The Will County Coroner's Office website lists 50 drug overdose deaths so far this year, and the last one being on May 12. Of those, 44 involved heroin and Fentanyl.

According to the coroner's data, Will County had 150 drug overdose deaths in 2021 including 111 involving heroin/Fentanyl. In 2020, there were 125 overdose deaths and 84 involving heroin. In 2019, the number was 143 overdose deaths and 103 with heroin. In 2018, the total was 119 overdose deaths including 80 with heroin.
