Explosives Found At Harrah's Casino In Downtown Joliet?

The Cook County Sheriff's Police Bomb Team responded to downtown Joliet's Harrah's Casino & Hotel and made a determination.

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department responded to the Harrah’s Casino Hotel around lunch time on Friday after housekeeping staff found what they believed to be unmarked explosives inside a guest’s room.

Joliet police spokesman Olin Torkelson announced that the incident happened at 11:55 a.m. and the casino was immediately evacuated.

The Cook County Sheriff's Police Bomb Team came to Joliet and determined the unmarked item to be commercial-grade fireworks.

Additional commercial-grade fireworks were also located in a vehicle in the casino parking garage, believed to be related to the hotel room. The bomb squad took custody of the fireworks for disposal. The casino, hotel, and parking garage were then re-opened for everyone.

No arrests were made.

He noted that the Joliet Police Department thanked the Cook County Sheriff's Police Bomb Team for its assistance investigating the incident.
