Felony DUI Arrest, Hickory St. Man Causes Hit-And-Run Crash: JPD

Around 10 am. Saturday, Joliet police responded to the 600 block of Garnsey Avenue for a hit-and-run crash.

JOLIET, IL — A 44-year-old man from the 600 block of Hickory Street is now behind bars at the Will County Jail after Joliet police say Vicente Martinez was driving under the influence of alcohol on Saturday morning when he crashed into a parked car in the 600 block of Garnsey Avenue and kept on driving.

The victim of the hit-and-run crash followed Martinez to the 500 block of Columbia Street and called 911. Nobody was hurt in the crash, but the victim's Chevrolet Cruz sustained damage.

Martinez was identified as the driver of the Toyota Camry, and the passenger side of his car struck the driver’s side of the Chevy Cruze.

Martinez displayed signs of alcohol impairment, and after undergoing field sobriety tests, he was put in handcuffs and arrested.

Martinez was charged with aggravated DUI and given citations for improper lane usage, operating an uninsured motor Vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with no valid driver’s license. Police had his Toyota Camry towed away.

Bail for Martinez was set at $2,500. So far, he remains incarcerated, unable to post the necessary 10 percent to regain his freedom while awaiting trial.
