CREST HILL, IL — Lockport Township Fire officials are investigating the cause of Saturday morning's fire in the 1800 block of Dearborn Street. People living inside the house made it out safely. The fire was reported at 9:07 a.m.

Lockport Township firefighters found a one-story single-family residence with a working fire in the rear that had extended into the attic, fire department spokesman Frank Blaskey said.

It took about 15 minutes to get the fire under control.

The residents were alerted to the fire by a neighbor. Fire and water damage left the home uninhabitable, Blaskey said.

The City of Crest Hill assisted the occupants with temporary living arrangements, and the Red Cross was notified to provide the family with any additional assistance. Additional resources and manpower from Plainfield and Romeoville responded to the scene.
