Joliet HHGregg Store Evacuated After Fire

Employees, customers evacuated Saturday afternoon.

JOLIET, IL -- Firefighters quickly extinguished a small fire outside the Joliet hhgregg store on Saturday afternoon. A customer ran into the store and alerted employees to the blaze just before 3 p.m., a witness told Patch. The fire started in some bushes in the back of the store, 3150 Tonti Dr., near the Louis Joliet Mall.

Smoke could be seen outside the store even after the fire was extinguished. By 3:15 p.m., the store had reopened and customers were back inside shopping despite the lingering smell of smoke.

The Joliet police and fire departments did not immediately respond to calls from Patch on Saturday afternoon. Police had the area near the bushes roped off and remained on the scene as of 3:30 p.m.
