Looking to stay motivated to get some steps in outdoors as the weather begins to cool? Join our Trail Club for weekly walks at Hammel Woods Sunday mornings in November.

"Hammel Woods welcomes you in with its year-round beauty," said Forest Preserve District of Will County recreation coordinator Eilleen Koran, who leads the Trail Club walks. "It is the place to be during November to see some fantastic fall foliage."

The November sessions of Trail Club will meet from 9 to 10 a.m. Sundays, Nov. 1, 8, 15 and 22, at Hammel Woods — Crumby Recreation Area in Shorewood. (Trail Club will not meet Sunday, Nov. 29.)

No registration is required. Walkers who attend at least four Trail Club sessions this fall will receive a Trail Club sticker.

Trail Club is intended as a way to encourage people to stay active in the preserves no matter the weather, Koran said.

"Trail Club offers a casual atmosphere for a hike while meeting people who enjoy the outdoors as much as you do," she said.

The route at Hammel Woods is about 2.5 miles over paved and natural surfaces. The group walks at a casual, conversational pace that fosters community and wellness.

Walkers do not need to commit to attending all sessions of Trail Club, Koran added. It is intended for people to attend as their schedule allows.
