Former Girls Basketball Coach, High School Teacher Jailed on Sex & Child Porn Charges

Since losing his teaching job, the alleged rapist started working at a Chicago Starbucks, according to court papers.

A former Wilmington High School teacher and girls basketball coach was jailed for allegedly having sex with an underage student.

Jonathan Lewis, 27, of Naperville was hit with aggravated criminal sexual abuse, criminal sexual assault and child pornography charges in connection with his alleged affair with the teenage girl.

Lewis taught social studies. He resigned from his job at the high school after an anonymous tipster accused him of the sex crimes. Lewis was working at a Chicago Starbucks when the charges were brought against him, according to court papers.

The student Lewis abused was older than 13 but younger than 18, according to a criminal complaint filed in Will County court.

Lewis was taken into custody Thursday morning. His bond was set at $1 million.

The U.S. State Department revoked Lewis’ passport after detectives developed information that led them to believe he might flee the country, police said.
