Former Joliet Housing Authority CFO Gets 4 Years for Nearly $200K Fraud Case

She allegedly issued phony payments to an ex-husband.

Chicago, IL — A former Joliet Housing Authority chief financial officer was sentenced to four years in prison for allegedly defrauding the Chicago Housing Authority of nearly $200,000.

Charlene Potts, 45, and her ex-husband, Scott Washington, 51, were both sentenced Friday in Cook County, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

While employed by the CHA, Potts allegedly processed phony CHA payments to Washington worth more than $170,000. The checks were issued between 2005 and 2008.

At the time of her arrest in 2013, she was working at the Housing Authority of Joliet’s Chief Financial Officer. She was hired in 2010 as a temp employee.

Johnson received 30 months of probation.
