Friends of Rachel Community Program to be Held October 9 at Joliet Central High School

Joliet Central High School will host a Friends of Rachel Community Program at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 9 in the Joliet Central Auditorium

Joliet Central High School will host a Friends of Rachel Community Program at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 9 in the Joliet Central Auditorium, 201 E. Jefferson Street in Joliet. Rachel Scott, the first student to be murdered at Columbine High School in 1999, was a remarkable young lady who believed she would make an impact on the world, and she did through her life, death and diaries. Her incredible story has been told to over 10 million people around the world including media programs like Oprah, Larry King Live, The Today Show, Fox News, CNN, ABC, CBS and NBC.

All students, families and community members are invited to the 7 p.m. program. Admission is free. This program promotes peace in the home, school and community. Rachel’s five challenges are: look for the best in others-eliminate prejudice; dare to dream-set goals and keep a journal; choose positive influences; kind words and actions=huge results; and start a chain reaction.

“The community program is a direct result of the work that our JCHS Friends of Rachel Club has completed,” said sponsor Patti Edwards. “The mission of the FOR club is to promote kindness and compassion within our school and community through a chain reaction that will ripple onward and make our world and community a better place. The community presentation is a way to accomplish this mission. It is a great program for families to attend together and teaches valuable lessons that can benefit all of us.”
