Fundraiser to Help Family of Joliet Man Killed in Crash
Scott Wood was killed Thursday morning in a crash in Elwood.

Two local youth sports organizations are working to help a Joliet woman after her fiance’s unexpected death.
Scott Wood, 31, died Thursday morning in a crash on the Arsenal Road bridge in Elwood, about a half-mile east of I-55. Police said Wood’s 1998 Ford Explorer crossed the center line on the icy bridge into the path of an oncoming SUV, the Morris Daily Herald reported. The accident occurred just before 7 a.m. Wood was pronounced dead at 9:15 a.m. at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

“On Thursday January 8, 2015 Melissa lost the love of her life to a motor vehicle accident,” the organizations posted on a YouCaring page established in Wood’s honor. “If you knew Scott and Melissa you know that Scott loved Melissa with everything that he had. He also loved her 3 boys. He cared for them, supported them and encouraged them as they were his own. So much so, that Scott was the sole provider for the whole family. Now with his passing, the family is left without Scott, and without support. ”
“We need your help with this,” the sports organizations wrote. “We are asking for donations of any denomination because every little bit helps. We are also collecting grocery gift cards and meals to give to the family to help them.”
