Girlfriend's Dad Steps Into Squabble, Shoots Boyfriend Twice: Cops

The boyfriend survived and the girlfriend's dad went to jail.

A Joliet man stepped into a squabble between his daughter and her boyfriend, police said, then shot him twice after they fell to fighting.

Will County deputies reportedly arrived at an Edison Road home about 3:30 a.m. Saturday and found 49-year-old Jorge Andreu standing on the porch. Andreu was holding a 9 mm pistol and complained of head pain, police said. He reportedly declined medical attention.

Deputies went inside and found 42-year-old Damaso Gutierrez-Albarran on the dining room floor, police said. Gutierrez-Albarran reportedly had been shot in the left shoulder and left leg but was conscious and alert. He was taken to Presence St. Joseph Medical Center.

Deputies reportedly determined that Gutierrez-Albarran and his girlfriend — who is Andreu’s daughter — were arguing and Andreu intervened. Gutierrez-Albarran and Andreu ended up fighting and Andreu took a blow to the head before he shot Gutierrez-Albarran twice, police said.

Three children were sleeping in the house at the time of the shooting, police said.

Andreu was arrested and taken to the Will County jail. He posted $25,000 bail and was released from custody Tuesday.
