Goofee G's Opens On Plainfield Rd: 'Who Doesn't Like Ice Cream?'
Featuring 18 to 20 homemade flavors, Goofee G's is now open seven days a week. The owners of Hazel Marie's in Plainfield run it.

CREST HILL, IL — There are no more reasons to ask your friends, neighbors or Facebook followers when Goofee G's ice cream shop will open. Ken and Tammy Barvian, also the owners of the popular Hazel Marie's on Lockport Street in downtown Plainfield, have just opened Goofee G's, at 2225 Plainfield Road.
Mother's Day marked the soft opening, and Monday marked the official opening, according to Ken Barvian. Goofee G's features a walk-up window as well as a drive-thru lane for customers who want their ice cream on the go.
Goofee G's is off to an excellent start, especially on social media. For being open less than two days, the Goofee G's Facebook page already has 1,000 followers and 842 likes.

Crest Hill Mayor Ray Soliman first announced the anticipated construction of the Goofee G's ice cream shop back in December 2019 —before the pandemic hit.
On Monday afternoon, Soliman informed Joliet Patch he is thrilled that Goofee G's has finally opened for business in Crest Hill.
"We are very excited to have Goofee G's in the city of Crest Hill," Soliman responded. "They have a great location and made tremendous improvements to the property. They also serve a quality product and have a great following."
According to its Facebook page, Goofee G's is a "locally owned homemade ice cream shop with outdoor seating, drive thru & walk up windows."
"And who doesn't like ice cream?" Crest Hill's mayor asked. "Just in time for the hot summer season. I can't wait."
On Monday afternoon, Ken Barvian told Joliet Patch that all the ice cream and waffle bowls are made daily.
For now, Goofee G's is open 3 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Barvian said that Goofee G's plans to expand its weekday hours once school lets out for the summer.
Goofee G's plans to carry 18 to 20 different ice cream flavors on a regular basis.

On Sunday, Ken Barvian posted a Facebook video highlighting the Grandioso sundae.
According to the menu, it's a homemade brownie/cookie heaped with three scoops, three sauces and waffle cone crumbles. It's $14.99. All sundaes include whipped cream and cherries.
As for the ice cream, the menu includes: banana blast, brownie avalanche, birthday cake, bubble gum, butter pecan, chocolate chip cookie chaos and even the Racheepadachee, which is described as "chocolate ice cream loaded with Heath bar pieces and cookie dough."
On Mother's Day, with no advanced advertising or publicity, "we got a fair amount of people," Ken Barvian remarked. "So, today's really the official opening. Everything is homemade, everything, including hot fudge and salted caramel."
For the unfamiliar, Goofy G's ice cream shop is at the corner of Webb Street and Plainfield Road. It's across the street from the Joey's Red Hots hot dog stand.
"We do a waffle bowl. We do a dipped waffle bowl and regular waffle bowls," Ken Barvian explained.
Customers can also get their ice cream in a cup or a sugar or cake cone.
"Whatever anybody wants is what we'll do," he remarked.
