JOLIET, IL — A 14-year-old national logistics company that touts itself as being the third highest-paying trucking company in the nation for truck drivers is getting settled at its new corporate headquarters in Joliet. This month, GP Transco's teal-colored semi-trailers are becoming a frequent sight along the U.S. Route 6 corridor.

“This new headquarters is a major milestone in the history of GP Transco, and we couldn’t be more excited to call the city of Joliet our new home," said GP Transco CEO Dominic Zastarskis in a statement issued to Joliet Patch.

GP Transco becomes the second major company to open a new facility in Joliet on Channahon Road within the past year. In January, Target held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening of its new 1.2 million square-foot building.

Target said it planned to employ 300 people at its new distribution center.

Now, the city of Joliet has another economic development success story to celebrate. GP Transco opened this month on land adjacent to Target.

GP Transco adds about 100 new permanent jobs to the Joliet economy, according to city economic development specialist Derek Conley.

Previously, the company was based in Darien, Conley said. "GP Transco is another corporate headquarters that we're adding to Joliet," Conley said. "We're very happy. It's 100 employees, and they're good-paying jobs and it's a very nice facility. There's indoor basketball courts."

According to the company's website, "our basketball court, gym, kitchen, laundry facilities, lounge areas, and more will be open 24 hours for our drivers who are passing through the area and for all office staff."

The new Joliet headquarters will have enough space to accommodate more than 500 trailers and tractors, GP Transco said.

Conley told Joliet Patch's editor on Tuesday that the new headquarters for GP Transco is surrounded by prime commercial real estate that is poised for additional development.

Conley said he expects construction of the long-talked about Houbolt Road Bridge will be moving forward and "that area will be even more appealing. So, we've seen some economic development with the Target, and that's going to mean 300 employees and there are a couple other parcels in that area that are still available."

Sergey Bort, GP Transco's vice president of marketing & strategic business development, told Joliet Patch that his company was founded in 2006. GP Transco has nearly 400 tractors and 650 trailers delivering loads on all 48 of the lower states in the U.S., he added.

GP Transco is also proud of the fact that it is regarded as the third highest-paying trucking company in the country for truck drivers, Bort noted.

"We put a strong emphasis on technology — working smarter, etc., which is one of the main things that allowed us to stay productive during the pandemic, which is not something many trucking companies can say, unfortunately," Bort informed Patch.

Because GP Transco is new to Joliet, the company's vice president provided Joliet Patch with the following data about his company:

  • About 2.1 billion pounds of cargo are transported on GP Transco trucks by GP Transco drivers each year. The number is also growing annually, Bort said.
  • 30 million miles are driven by GP Transco trucks and drivers every year. The number is also growing annually.
  • Nearly 50,000 loads of freight are delivered by GP Transco trucks and drivers each year. The number is also growing annually.
  • We utilize some of the cleanest and most modern technologies when it comes to our equipment, making sure the work is done in a safe and environmentally conscious manner, Bort added.
