Greater Joliet Golf Hole of the Month: No. 2 at Inwood
The trick to conquering the island green hole is starting with a well-struck tee shot and then blocking out the water, according to Inwood's Brian Komp.
In some local golf circles, the second hole at Inwood is affectionately called the Island of Doom.
The hole is a 327-yard, par-4—a dogleg left—that plays to an island green. And, anyone who has played the hole, no doubt can tell a story of how it has doomed their round.
“No. 2 at Inwood—that could make or break your round,” said 25-year-old Brian Komp a lifelong Joliet resident who works in the pro shop at the Joliet Park District Golf Course and teaches junior lessons at Inwood.

“For me, it’s either a birdie or a bogey kind of hole,” he said. “If I make birdie, then I’m going to win the round. But, if I make bogey, then it’s going to kill my round.”
Komp has played enough rounds at Inwood to know the lay of the land. He was a standout player at Joliet West High School before going on to a collegiate career at the University of St. Francis.

He graduated with a political science degree in 2011. And he said he is just now beginning to apply a bit science and logic to his golf game. He’ll sacrifice length off the tee for a well-struck shot that lands in the middle of the fairway.
And that kind of a shot is a must on No. 2 at Inwood.
