Gun Pulled On Riverwalk Homes Tenant After She Accepts Ride: JPD

As the woman prepared to walk to the store at Western Avenue and Hickory Street, she accepted a ride from Deshauwn King, police said.

JOLIET, IL — A 36-year-old man from Bourbonnais is in the Will County Jail after Joliet police say Deshauwn King pulled out a gun and threatened to harm a woman he agreed to give a ride to the convenience store at Western Avenue and Hickory Street.

The incident happened around 12:20 p.m. Friday at the Riverwalk Homes public housing complex, 300 block of North Bluff Street.

Joliet police say King was arrested on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of ammunition and an Illinois Department of Corrections warrant.

Police say the woman was preparing to walk to the store at Western Avenue and Hickory Street when she accepted a car ride from King, a prior acquaintance.

"After the victim entered King’s vehicle, he then threatened the victim with a handgun," police spokesman Dwayne English said. "King and the victim exited the vehicle at which time King followed the victim back to her apartment. King then fled the area."

After Joliet police canvassed the near west side neighborhood, officers spotted King in the 400 block of North Bluff, and he was arrested without incident.

When King was searched, Joliet police found a loaded 9 mm handgun in his pocket, English noted.

King's bail was set at $200,000, and he remained incarcerated on Monday.
