Gunfire Strikes House, 3 Joliet Teens Arrested

Around 8:20 p.m. Monday Joliet police responded to the area of Baker and Grant for a report of shots fired.

JOLIET, IL — Joliet police arrested three teenagers Monday night in connection with a shooting on the city's east side. Nobody was hurt, but a house in the 600 block of Grant Avenue was hit by the bullets, Joliet police announced.

A 17-year-old boy and two 16-year-old boys were found hiding in a basement following the shooting. All three are being held at the River Valley Justice Center on charges of aggravated, unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of ammunition and having no Firearm Owners Identification card.

Around 8:20 p.m., Joliet police were sent to the area of Baker and Grant Avenues for a report of shots fired. A large amount of spent 9 mm casings were found in the street near the 300 block of Baker Avenue, according to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English.

"After further investigation, information was developed that three juveniles were responsible for the shooting," English noted. "Officers made contact with the father of one of the 16-year-old juveniles at a residence in the 300 block of Baker Avenue."

After getting permission to search the house on Baker Avenue for the shooting suspects, "the three juveniles were located hiding in the basement," English announced.
