Gunfire In Wilmington, Woman Held Against Her Will: Complaint

Sunday's incident led Wilmington police to take Michael Crowel, 50, into custody. Five criminal charges were filed against him.

WILMINGTON, IL — A 50-year-old Wilmington resident is now in the Will County Jail following Sunday's incident involving gunfire.

The Will County State's Attorney's Office of Jim Glasgow has charged Michael Crowel with two counts of unlawful restraint, one count of reckless discharge of a gun and two counts of domestic battery. Crowel was booked into the Will County Jail around 9:20 p.m. by the Wilmington Police Department.

According to his criminal complaint, Crowel detained a woman with his Sig Sauer P 226 semi-automatic pistol inside his apartment unit, in the 200 block of North First Street.

The complaint states that Crowel discharged his gun, endangering the safety of the woman he was detaining inside at his apartment.

The domestic battery charges indicate that Crowel grabbed the woman by her shoulders, and he also threw her to the ground.

On Monday, Will County's judges set bail at $50,000 for Crowel.
