By 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, one of the windows for Hamburgerseria already had 50 colorful paper hearts on display. One of the biggest hearts was lime green, dark green, pink, purple, aqua blue and orange.
Its message read: "Special Thanks to healthcare workers, first responders, and all essential workers!"
Another heart made of red paper read: "Soon enough you'll be able to hug loved ones; so long as you continue to be strong. We are all strong together. For now, send a text, make a call or drive over and wave!!!"
Hamburgerseria employees told Joliet Patch that anyone can bring in a heart to display in the window. The promotion is not just for children. As a token of gratitude, customers of all ages who bring in a handmade heart will receive a complimentary shake.
The free shake promotion will continue through the end of next week, staff told Patch.
Hamburgersia says it has several shakes to choose from: oreo, caramel, vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, banana and pineapple.
