Happy Falafel Opens On Route 59 In Joliet

JOLIET, IL — Thursday, Nov. 21, marked an important date in Joliet restaurant history. Why? Because Happy Falafel opened for business at 2119 Route 59. Joliet may be the state's third largest city, but the community isn't known for its diverse restaurant options. That's changing.

My family saved 20 percent by using the online coupon, which saved us $8.75. We ordered a wide array of menu items: Falafel Pita, Chicken Kabob Pita, Beef Shawerma Pita, Arabic Salad, Lentil Soup and Chicken Shawerma Pita.

While waiting to pick up my order, I panned the menu again and came to the realization that nothing on the menu currently costs more than $9.

Inside, I struck up a conversation with a woman who was also waiting for her carryout order. The woman told me she had been really excited about Happy Falafel's opening in Joliet because it's something different, something unique for Joliet.

The woman told me she worked in Naperville and that the Route 59 corridor seems to her like it's overrun with a hundred different pizza restaurants.

At some point in the coming months, I'll probably head back to Happy Falafel to write a food review.

Until then, just enjoy the fact that Joliet has added a new authentic Mediterranean-style cuisine restaurant. There's dine-in, carryout and catering available.

The Joliet Happy Falafel is now open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 8 p.m. The restaurant phone is 815-782-7686.

Happy Falafel is in the small strip mall just north of the Arby's along Route 59. It's in that area where the boundaries of Joliet, Plainfield and Shorewood all seem to run together.
