Helzberg Diamonds Burglar Sought By Joliet Police

The defendant's place of employment is listed as Amazon, according to his Will County arrest warrant.

JOLIET, IL —The Joliet Police Department has filed three criminal charges against a 26-year-old man in connection with last week's burglary to the Helzberg Diamonds store on Plainfield Road, near the Louis Joliet Mall property. On Oct. 11, Will County Judge Carmen Goodman issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Detroit resident Christopher Sampson.

Sampson has been charged with two counts of burglary and one count of theft. The crimes occurred on Oct. 9. Bail was set at $500,000 once Sampson is taken into custody.

According to the complaint, Sampson burglarized the Helzberg Diamonds building on Tuesday, Oct. 9 "with the intent to commit theft." According to the theft charge, Sampson stole jewelry "having a value exceeding $10,000 and not exceeding $100,000 with the intent to deprive Helzberg Diamonds permanently of such or benefit."

As of Tuesday night, Oct. 16, Sampson was not in the custody of the Will County Jail.

Court records listed Amazon as his place of employment and his last known address as being on Greeley Street in Detroit, Mich.
