JOLIET, IL — Motorists hoping to use the McDonough Street Bridge to get between the west side and east side of Joliet were met by a Joliet police road closure for a portion of Wednesday afternoon. A semi-trailer knocked down a utility pole around 1 p.m. Wednesday, and then drove away from the scene, a Joliet police officer told Patch.

At 1:30 p.m., Joliet police announced on Facebook that McDonough Street was closed from South Chicago Street to Railroad Street for a downed power line in the roadway because the semi hit it.

The downed utility line left several residents of Water's Edge, the Joliet Housing Authority Development along Des Plaines Street, without electricity.
