Houbolt Road's Closing: 5 Things You Need To Know
In Joliet Houbolt Road, between US Route 6 and Mound Road, will be closed in the coming days.

JOLIET, IL — For the past several weeks, driving along Houbolt Road from the Interstate 80 exit to U.S. 6 has been pretty hectic with all the heavy construction taking place. Now, it's only a matter of days before Houbolt Road will be completely shut down.
Completely shut down? That's right. But, hey, at least on the bright side, the shutdown is only a temporary.
On Friday, the Office of Joliet City Manager Jim Capparelli issued a press release to give area residents advanced notice of the major detour route.

Houbolt Road in Joliet, between Route 6 and Mound Road, will be closed beginning Monday, October 24, through Sunday, November 6.
2. Will there be any detour signs?
Yes, a detour will be posted utilizing Houbolt Road, McDonough Street, Larkin Avenue and Route 6.
3. Why is Houbolt Road being shut down for two whole weeks?
Joliet says the full road closure is required to allow for the CSX Railroad to reconstruct the railroad crossing. All ramps at the interchange of Houbolt Road and I-80 will remain open, as well as the intersection of Houbolt Road and Mound Road.
4. When does Houbolt Road re-open?
As part of Joliet’s Houbolt Road reconstruction project, the new lanes are set to reopen on Monday, November 7.
5. What type of construction work will take place while Houbolt Road is closed?
Two new permanent concrete lanes will be paved on the east side of Houbolt Road between Route 6 and Mound Road. Upon the reopening of Houbolt Road, traffic will be moved on to the new lanes. For further information, call the City of Joliet Public Works Department at (815) 724-4200.
