JOLIET, IL — Downtown Joliet's North Chicago Street corridor continues to add more businesses. Michele Arana will be moving her Crest Hill-based houseplant business next door to Richardson's Restaurant, which just opened in January.

Arana is relocating her store, Internode Greenery & Home at 2400 Caton Farm Road, to the empty corner storefront that was vacated last June by James Sankey, when he moved Cheesecakes By James to Division Street in Crest Hill off Weber Road.

There are now coming soon signs on the windows alerting visitors to downtown Joliet that Internode Greenery & Home will be opening in the next several weeks.

During an October 2021 interview at her Crest Hill business, Arana told Joliet Patch, "We are the only houseplant store in the area. The word's getting out. I usually bring in new plants on Wednesdays."

Arana said that all of her houseplants are real and she carries lots of rare tropical houseplants and "a lot of unique home goods."

"No faux plants," she told Patch two years ago. "They're all live. Some of them I grow myself."

Other plants, the Joliet resident said, come from "reputable greenhouses" as far away as Florida and Arizona.

Houseplants make a great gift for anniversaries, birthdays, funerals, new houses, teachers and as Christmas presents, she said at the time.

Two of her biggest clients are mortgage brokers and realtors. One of her favorite things about houseplants? They "bring positivity into new space," Arana said.
