I-55 Fatal Crash: Channahon Man Loses Life In Weekend Wreck

CHANNAHON — Will County Coroner Laurie Summers issued a Facebook post on Monday letting everyone know that a 33-year-old Channahon died over the weekend from a crash along Interstate 55. The fatality victim was identified as Camden Newberry and he was pronounced dead at 3:34 p.m. on Saturday at St. Joe's Hospital.

Newberry's motor vehicle crash happened on southbound I-55 at mile marker 248. The Illinois State Police are now investigating the fatality, the coroner noted.

The fatality happened near the Route 6 interchange in Channahon Township. The 2022 Toyota Corolla was traveling south on Interstate 55 near milepost 248, left the roadway to the left and struck a sign and light pole. The 33-year-old Channahon driver was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died of his injuries.

The Route 6 ramp was closed for the crash investigation. All lanes were re-opened at 3:38 p.m.
