Shorewood Teen Dies In I-80 Crash In Joliet
Joliet's Fire Department reported that two vehicles were involved in the crash along Interstate 80 near the Houbolt Road exit.

JOLIET, IL — A 19-year-old Shorewood woman died following a Sunday morning wreck on Interstate 80 near the Houbolt Road exit. The Will County Coroner's Office announced that Sarah M. Wise died at St. Joe's hospital at 7:52 a.m.
Joliet Fire Chief Greg Blaskey said the crash happened around 6:35 a.m. along the eastbound I-80 stretch near Houbolt Road. Firefighter crews found one vehicle against the metal guardrail in the median. The 64-year-old Lansing man, driving a 2010 Dodge Caliber, was not hurt, the fire department said.
The 2018 Toyota Corola driven by the Shorewood teenager went into the ditch and struck a tree, police said. Joliet firefighters from Station 7 extricated Wise from the car and rushed her to St. Joe's in critical condition where she was later died.

The Illinois State Police said that both vehicles were driving east in the right lane along Interstate 80 when the Shorewood teenager rear-ended the Lansing man's Dodge Caliber.
The eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 at Houbolt Road were shut down for approximately four hours during the traffic crash investigation, traffic was diverted off at Houbolt Road. Interstate 80 at Houbolt road was reopened at 10:40 a.m., the State Police said.
