I-80 Semi Crash Shuts Down Traffic Near Shorewood

Wednesday evening's crash halted motorists heading westbound toward Minooka from Joliet.

SHOREWOOD, IL —A major rollover wreck involving a semi-trailer happened along the westbound stretch of Interstate 80 between Shorewood and Minooka early Wednesday evening leaving three people hospitalized with injuries, according to the Illinois State Police.

News of the crash was first reported by the Facebook page Chicagoland FireGround Scanner. Troy Fire responded to the call, as did several ambulances. Minooka and Channahon also sent paramedics to the I-80 crash scene.

The Illinois State Police notified Joliet Patch that Wednesday's wreck happened at 5:13 p.m. near milepost 125.

According to state police, troopers responded to a three-vehicle crash involving a truck tractor semi-trailer that was traveling from the eastbound lanes to the westbound lanes and overturned in the ditch.

Two passenger vehicles were involved in the crash. Three people were transported to local area hospitals with injuries. The left lane was opened at approximately 5:50 p.m.

One person commented on the Chicagoland Facebook page: "I passed by this area headed east and it's so backed up people are standing outside of their cars ... hoping minimal or no injuries for those involved."
