IKEA Might Build 2nd Warehouse in Joliet on Newly Bought Land

The parcel is next to the 72 acres where the home furnishing company already has plans for a distribution center.

IKEA could be building a second Joliet warehouse that’s near the spot the business will be putting up a new distribution center, according to a Times Weekly report.

Mayor Thomas Giarrante announced last Thursday that the home-furnishing company had purchased land next to the 72 acres it already owned, the report stated. IKEA had announced earlier this year that it planned to build 1.4-million-square-foot distribution center on that land. Construction on that could begin as early as this fall, and it’s expected to be completed by 2017.

IKEA, which has retail stores in Bolingbrook and Schaumburg, plans to use the new distribution center to service its 10 Midwest outlets.
