JOLIET, IL - On Wednesday night, Joliet Police officers blocked off traffic on Jefferson Street because the one-way Jefferson Street Bridge became stuck in the upright position after a barge passed along the Des Plaines River. The incident occurred between 7 and 7:30 p.m.

As of 8:15 p.m., the bridge was still stuck and police were detouring people away from the bridge, which is the main route of travel for people heading downtown.

Patch learned that police began removing the cones around 8:45 p.m. The Jefferson Street Bridge has apparently been fixed and traffic will be allowed to pass.
