Thirsty Burglar Entered Kozol Bros. Beer Truck: Complaint

Are you surprised by the beer he is accused of taking?

JOLIET, IL - The Will County State's Attorney Office this week filed two criminal charges against a 57-year-old Joliet man who is accused of breaking into a Kozol Brothers beer truck that was parked on Jefferson Street to make a delivery. The defendant, Stevie Booker, has been charged with burglary as well as theft. Booker is accused of committing the crimes last Friday, Sept. 21.

The complaint states that Booker "without authority, knowingly entered a building of Kozol Brothers, being a commercial trailer, a VT Hackney semi-trailer parked behind Bash Liquors located at 823 West Jefferson Street."

Booker's purpose was to commit a theft, the document states.

Booker is a previously convicted thief, court documents at the Will County Courthouse show. He was convicted of retail theft in Kane County in 2010.

In last week's arrest by the Joliet Police Department, Booker is accused of having "knowingly obtained control over stolen property of Kozol Brothers ... a case of Coors Light beer, under such circumstances as would reasonably induce said defendant to believe that the property was stolen, including to deprive Kozol Brothers permanently of the use and benefit of said property."

Booker spent about 24 hours in the Will County Jail and has since been released from the jail.

He also spent three days in the jail at the beginning of this month, after being arrested Sept. 1 on two counts of retail theft at the Jewel-Osco store on West Jefferson Street, the jail logs show.

At the time of his court appearance in that case, Booker's bail was set at $3,000 and court records indicate that the "defendant shall not consume alcohol during the pendency of this case."

Booker lives in the 300 block of Joliet's Romayne Avenue, court records indicate.
