Jefferson Street's Finest Hour? Tony's Fresh Market Opens For Joliet
Kmart's closing made Joliet's busiest intersection into an abandoned wasteland, but thanks to the Tony's supermarket, the corner's back.
JOLIET, IL —At 7 a.m. Wednesday, Tony's Fresh Market opens for real at 1801 West Jefferson St. City of Joliet officials will have a 9 a.m. ribbon-cutting to mark the occasion.
Joliet City Councilman Joe Clement said that on Monday he and former liquor commissioner Jim Greenan attended a sneak peek inside the new Tony's Fresh Market supermarket.
"And the store is unbelievable," Clement informed Joliet Patch. "Having Tony's second store, more importantly, the Jefferson and Larkin location, is such a great addition to the immediate area.

"Kmart sat vacant for years and now Tony's is here, which is a great thing. I'd like to thank Tony's for the continued commitment to Joliet."
The Joliet Kmart store went out of business in 2016. The property remained vacant ever since. Over the past year, Tony's spent several million dollars remodeling the building, which was built around 1965. A new asphalt parking lot was just added in recent days.

Joliet also has a Tony's Fresh Market on Route 59. That supermarket serves far west side residents of Joliet, plus residents of Shorewood and Plainfield.
The new Joliet Tony's will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
