Jeremy Boshears' Murder Trial Delayed Until April

JOLIET, IL — Jeremy Boshears has lived inside the Will County Jail awaiting his first-degree murder trial since his arrest by Will County Sheriff's detectives on Nov. 18, 2017. Now, he will remain in jail for at least another three months before his trial begins.

On Tuesday, Boshears' learned that his Will County jury trial in the death of 24-year-old Joliet bartender Katie Kearns is being delayed until April 11. Boshears' trial was set to get underway Jan. 31.

Now 36 years old, Boshears was a member of the Joliet Outlaws Motorcycle Club at the time of Kearns' death. She died from a gunshot wound, and her body was moved about 60 miles away.

Will County sheriff's deputies found her body in the back of her Jeep Wrangler in rural Kankakee County. Boshears is being represented by Joliet criminal defense lawyer Chuck Bretz.

Bretz has retained two expert witnesses, both retired police officers in Illinois. One plans to testify about the culture of the Joliet Outlaws motorcycle club, and the other concluded that Kearns died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the Joliet Outlaws building in the Ingalls Park area of Joliet's east side.

"We don't do this to impugn her in any way or to be disrespectful to her," Bretz told Joliet Patch last week. "She was under some mental health treatment for almost a two-year period for psychological issues."

As for Boshears, the Coal City resident was 32 at the time of his arrest on first-degree murder charges and concealment of a homicide. His bail remains set at $10 million.
