Jewel On Jefferson St. Sued By Customer

JOLIET, IL — A local woman has filed a civil lawsuit against the Jewel-Osco at 1401 W. Jefferson Street in connection with a tumble she took inside the Joliet business in 2018. The new Will County lawsuit was filed by plaintiff Beverly Dixon, a Will County resident, according to court records.

On March 17, 2018, Dixon was a customer at the Joliet grocery store, and she was lawfully on the premises, according to her lawyers at the Joliet law firm of Rathbun, Cservenyak & Kozol. While on the property, Dixon was caused to slip, stumble and fall at the main entrance "due to an accumulation of sawdust," her lawyers maintain. "As a result of the aforementioned incident, plaintiff Beverly Dixon suffered severe injuries and damage."

The plaintiff's lawyers cite nine instances of negligence or carelessness on the part of Jewel-Osco including having "allowed and permitted the accumulation of sawdust to remain in an unsafe position and (having) created a danger to all persons walking in and out of aforesaid aisle."

The lawsuit also accused Jewel-Osco of failing to warn Dixon of the dangerous condition of the sawdust in the main entrance "when the defendant knew, or in the exercise of ordinary care should have known, that said warning was necessary to prevent injury to the plaintiff."

Dixon, as a result of her fall, suffered severe and permanent injuries, both internally and externally, according to her lawyers. Her lawsuit seeks unspecified monetary damages from Jewel-Osco and co-defendant ASP Realty, which owned and managed the property at 1401 W. Jefferson St., according to the law offices of Rathbun, Cservenyak & Kozol.
