JJC President Resigns Over Personal Reasons

Dr. Judy Mitchell, JJC vice president of administrative services, has been appointed as interim president.

Joliet Junior College President Dr. Debra Daniels has resigned from her position effective Friday, March 18.

JJC Board Chair Bob Wunderlich said in a statement that Daniels cited personal reasons for her departure, but was unable to provide any further details.

Dr. Judy Mitchell, JJC vice president of administrative services, has been appointed as interim president while the board works out details for a presidential search.

“Dr. Mitchell is a 19-year college employee and has strong knowledge of our operations, finances and strategic plan to continue moving the college forward in the right direction,” Wunderlich said in a statement.

Daniels served as JJC’s president for four years. During her tenure, the college completed "significant" initiatives, including the development of an international students program and a master plan update that “sparked the construction of the Romeoville Campus expansion and the JJC Events Center,” according to Wunderlich.

Wunderlich said the board will continue to share updates as it finalizes plans for a presidential search.

“Joliet Junior College has been a vital educational resource in our community for 115 years and I have every confidence it will continue to do so well into the future,” Wunderlich said.
