Joliet Bridge Closes For 2 Months
People will need to find another way to get downtown.

JOLIET, IL - In June, Patch reported that the state Department of Transportation would be shutting down the Jefferson Street bridge over the Des Plaines River for two months for major structural steel repairs. On Monday morning, to everyone's disappointment, the inevitable happened. The bridge closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. It's expected to stay that way until sometime in September.
"Jefferson Street bridge is expected to reopen to traffic in September 2018, weather permitting. The bridge closure is the first of two stages of repairs on Jefferson Street bridge. An additional closure will be necessary early next year to complete mechanical repairs," IDOT announced last month.
