Joliet Central High School Students Honored at University of Illinois Salute to Academic Achievement

Sixteen Joliet Central High School students were recently honored during the University of Illinois Salute to Academic Achievement on Oct. 15, 2015 at the Chicago Hilton International.

Central students receiving recognition included Morayma Barron, Tymerra Coleman, Roberto Contreras, James Budrick Diaz, Diamante Findlay, Talia Franchini, Yessenia Garza, Maribel Guzman, Steven Haller, Annaisse Martinez, Lidia Montoya, Eric Nunez, Alondra Sanchez, Christian Serrato, Tamara Snevely, and Luis Villagomez. The students and their parents attended a college fair and luncheon.

This was the 32nd Salute to Academic Achievement held to recognize the academic success of African American and Latino high school seniors in Illinois. The Salute to Academic Achievement is an invitation-only event that includes a College Fair and luncheon.

Since 1984, the President of the University of Illinois has hosted an annual Salute to Academic Achievement (SAA) event to honor and recruit the state’s most talented students from traditionally underrepresented minority groups, and underrepresented counties in the state of Illinois. Through SAA, the University endeavors to recognize the academic accomplishments to the state’s most talented underrepresented high school seniors, and to encourage them to consider attending one of the three campuses of the University of Illinois.
