Joliet Central Math Team Qualifies For State In 3 Events: 'We Are Excited To See What They Accomplish'

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Central High School Math Team qualified for the Illinois State Math Contest in three events at the regional competition. The Illinois State Math Contest will be held April 18 at Illinois State University.

Qualifiers from Joliet Central include Venus Lopez Hermosillo, Cayleigh Morre, Jhyronte Nobles, Camila Zavala, Rocco Jones and Makayla Mays who qualified for state by earning first place in the freshman/sophomore eight-person team competition. Rocco Jones qualified for state in two events, earning second place in the oral competition, second place in the individual geometry competition, and placing first as a member of Joliet Central’s eight-person team; and Felix Arcand qualified individually for state by placing seventh in the individual pre-calculus competition.

Melissa Magnuson, Math Team Sponsor at Joliet Central, praised the students’ commitment throughout the season. “I am incredibly proud of our mathletes and the hard work they have put in all season,” Magnuson said. “Qualifying for state in multiple events is a testament to their dedication, teamwork, and countless hours of preparation. We are excited to see what they accomplish at the JJC Invitational in March and at state in April.”
