The African American Business Association will become a new subgroup of Joliet's Chamber of Commerce.

JOLIET, IL - The Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry wants to get out the word that a new group is being formed to encourage more black entrepreneurs in the city. The African American Business Association plans to hold its inaugural event on Aug. 24 at the Jacob Henry Victorian Ballroom, 15 S. Richards St. The event goes from 5 to 7 p.m. and there is no cost to attend, but there will be a cash bar.
The African American Business Association is a new subgroup within the Joliet Chamber. Some of the main sponsors for the Aug. 24 event include State Senator Pat McGuire; Joliet City Councilman Terry Morris, District 5; Minor-Morris Funeral Home; Wild Tuna Restaurant and State Farm Insurance-Howard Wright.
"The overall focus of the new group will cover four main topics including Business & Economic Development, Job Readiness, Professional Development and Networking/Special Events," Joliet's Chamber states on its website. "The main drive is to open new doors, develop future entrepreneurs, strengthen skills and expand networks."
