Joliet Demotes Finance Director Ghedotte, Kevin Sing Promoted
Joliet's city manager Jim Capparelli informed Joliet Patch of his decision on Tuesday. Ghedotte will still have a job at City Hall.

JOLIET, IL — After serving as the city of Joliet's finance director for more than eight years, Jim Ghedotte learned on Tuesday that he has been demoted from one of Joliet's highest positions held at City Hall. City manager Jim Capparelli informed Joliet Patch on Tuesday that he made the decision to oust Ghedotte.
From now on, Ghedotte will be an assistant finance director, Capparelli said.
"It's a demotion with a corresponding reduction in salary," Capparelli said.

Joliet Patch asked Capparelli why he made the decision to remove Ghedotte as finance director. Ghedotte came to Joliet in 2014 after serving as the finance director in Wayne, Michigan.
"I'm not going to give any comments," Capparelli said.

On the other hand, Capparelli said he's excited to announce he has promoted Kevin Sing, a Joliet native and Joliet Central High School graduate, to take over Ghedotte's position.
According to Capparelli's memo, "Kevin Sing is an experienced professional with over 20 years in municipal finance and administration. During his career, Kevin has proven himself to be a leader and asset to the community. He has a proven track record for increasing the financial health of an organization and empowering his staff to succeed."
Sing told Patch he started with Joliet in the finance department in March. He worked previously as village administrator and finance director for the village of Manhattan.
"This is a natural progression for a talented individual such as Kevin," Capparelli told Joliet Patch.
