Congratulations to Washington Junior High eighth grade student Maria Avalos Angeles for receiving a Gold Key award in the Scholastic Art and Writing Midwest Region competition. Her winning entry was a poem titled “No Hablo Inglés”.

"I am so excited for my student. Recognition for her poem is well-deserved,” said Anna Stone, Washington Junior High English Language Arts Teacher. “Earning a Gold Key is a phenomenal accomplishment that reminds us of the power of the arts and writing, and I could not be more proud."

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards were founded in 1923 to recognize creative teens throughout the country.
