Joliet Drunken Driver Hits Squad Car On Essington: Cops
Joliet police say Cruz Reyes crashed his car into a Joliet police car on Essington Road around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

JOLIET, IL — A 30-year-old Joliet man who was under the influence of several alcoholic beverages Wednesday evening crashed into a Joliet police car at a stop light on Essington Road, Joliet police reported.
Cruz Reyes, who lives in the 400 block of Chase Avenue, was hauled off to the Will County Jail on felony charges of aggravated drunken driving, driving while license suspended and numerous traffic violations, the Joliet Police Department announced.
According to police, the crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. at the stop light along Essington Road and Fiday Road.

Reyes collided with the back end of the on-duty Joliet police officer's squad car, reports show. The squad car was fully marked. Reyes and the Joliet officer escaped injury.
"Reyes exhibited signs of alcohol impairment while at the scene and open containers of alcohol were located in Cruz's vehicle," a Joliet police news release notes. "Cruz failed field sobriety tests and was taken into custody without incident."

On Friday afternoon, Cruz remained locked away from society, unable to post 10 percent of his $30,00 bail at the Will County Jail, logs show.
