Joliet Drunken Driver Intentionally Plows Into Garage: JPD

The Joliet man, 31, intentionally drove the truck through the closed garage door while others were inside, Joliet police said.

JOLIET, IL — An angry and intoxicated 31-year-old Joliet man from the 400 block of Summit Street was arrested over the weekend after he intentionally drove his GMC Sonoma truck into a garage where several relatives were, according to Joliet police.

Now, Cesar Rojas-Leon was put in the Will County Jail on charges of with aggravated DUI, criminal damage to property, reckless conduct and aggravated assault. The incident happened around 9 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of St. Joseph Avenue in Joliet's Marycrest area.

"Officers learned that Rojas-Leon had struck the detached garage at this residence with his vehicle, a GMC Sonoma truck," Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English announced. "Further investigation revealed that Rojas-Leon is a family member of the victim and intentionally drove the truck through the closed garage door while others were inside the garage."

After causing the crash, Rojas-Leon began to argue with others who were on the scene, police said.

There were no reported injuries.

Once Joliet police arrived on the scene, Rojas-Leon showed signs of alcohol impairment, and police said they learned he was upset about the party being held at the residence.

"Rojas-Leon admitted to drinking alcohol prior to driving," English noted.

In addition to being arrested, Rojas-Leon was cited for having an expired driver’s license and operating an uninsured vehicle. His truck was towed from the scene, police indicated.

Rojas-Leon was freed from the Will County Jail on Sunday after posting 10 percent of his $7,500 bail, jail records show.
