Joliet Getting New Culver's Restaurant: City Council Vote Takes Place This Evening

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet City Council vote on a new data center — perhaps the largest one ever built in the Midwest — is not the only topic of discussion at Monday's 4:30 p.m. meeting.

The Council will also vote on a recommendation from Greg Ruddy, director of public works, for a drive-thru permit at a Culver’s Restaurant for 1301 Shale Road.

Shale Road is right near the new Hollywood Casino Joliet out at the Rock Run Collections along Interstate 55.

According to Ruddy's memo for the Council, on February 12, the Department of Public Works received a request for a drive thru facility for a proposed Culver’s Restaurant at 1301 Shale Road. The restaurant will be located on a new lot adjacent to the existing Chipotle Restaurant within the Rock Run Collection Development.

The City’s Planning Division has reviewed the preliminary site plan and has no remaining concerns. Ruddy explained that the applicant has submitted a site plan to the Department of Public Works showing the operation of the proposed drive thru.

"The applicant has provided signage and pavement markings for adequate traffic flow into the drive thru while maintaining sufficient drive thru storage capacity to meet the requirements of the Department of Public Works," Ruddy's memo noted. " Access to the site will be available from a new full access driveway on Shale Road as well as an existing shared full access driveway between the proposed Culver’s and existing Chipotle restaurants. Upon final investigation, the Department of Public Works has determined that there is sufficient storage on the site and therefore recommends approval of the drive thru permit subject to approval of the final engineering plans."
